Book Review: Keeper of Secrets (The Sidhe)

Poor Lugh...
He continues to experience a series of unfortunate circumstances that push him closer and closer to having to confront the darkness that is threatening to consume him.
When visiting London one night he is attacked by a pack of werewolves. The only way he can escape them is to tap into the same darkness that is threatening to destroy him. Unfortunately this brings him closer than ever to dark magic. Lugh quickly realizes that to fix this he can no longer just push the darkness away. Conflicted, he must fight the darkness that is threatening to overcome him before it completely takes over and destroys his one chance to rebuild the future for the fey.

Despite my infatuation with Donovan and his story arc, I was able to relate to Lugh here in more ways than one. I've always perceived Lugh as a character that can do no wrong but in the past few installments of the series Lugh has really fallen off the wagon. This is further proven in Keeper of Secrets.

In this installment of the Champion of the Sidhe we get to really learn about Lugh and what we learn isn't at all what I anticipated. It seems like Lugh is of the personality type where he holds it together for the betterment of the team, only beneath the surface he too is battling his own demons. In this case quite literally.

For the first time we really start to see him losing control and battling the dark magic. Something that has been a long time coming if you ask me. I love it when characters who were known for being good and just have some type of psychological break and completely give into their darkside. Think Willow from Buffy. While I felt for Willow, watching her descent into darkness was entertaining and made for a wonderful storyline. The same is true here. Win.

I guess there is a part of me that hopes that he eventually finds his way back to the light and all that, since then it would be impossible for me to pick a favorite storyline, but so far I am enjoying dark Lugh.

Welcome to the darkside Lugh, hopefully you're enjoying the macadamia nut cookies.
